Remember the devil was formed
in timbrel and flute after
which confusion the prince
of clamor on earth led out the celestial
choir and held the crystal note
when once, before heaven's
lavender stretch covered
the sunless beds and the broken spread
of music marked their silent distance,
the devil also sang.
